PROCLAMATION NO. 265 of the MalacaƱang declares Monday, October 31, 2011 as a special non-working holiday throughout the country.   This is to give full opportunity to our people to properly observe the day with all its religious fervor which invariably requires them to travel to and from different regions of the country. Monday, 31 October 2011, may be declared as a special (non-working) day without detriment to public interest. WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 84, dated 20 December 2010, declared Tuesday, 1 November 2011, as a special (non-working) day.

August 29 and 30 are holidays!

MalacaƱang has declared August 29 (Monday) and August 30 (Tuesday) non-working holidays, making it a 4-day long weekend for some sectors. On August 29 we will celebrate the National Heroes Day and August 30 is the end of Ramadan. Section 2 of Proclamation 84 states that the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of end of Ramadan "shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall."

June 20, 2011 is a holiday

This coming June 20, 2011, Monday was declared by the MalacaƱang as holiday. It was declared a special non-working holiday to commemorate the 150th birthday of the country's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. "(This is) to give all Filipinos the opportunity to commemorate Rizal’s patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country, rekindle their admiration and respect for him, and to celebrate this milestone with appropriate ceremonies," President Benigno Simeon Aquino III said in Proclamation No.154 issued on April 26. The said date was being declared as holiday because of the request of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines to commemorate the hero's birthday. Rizal's birthday was on June 19 but since it falls on Sunday it was moved to the nearest Monday.
